In order to strengthen and standardize our >6 year rainwater monitoring for isotopic analyses of δ²H, δ¹⁸O and ³H in Ecuador, we installed two Palmex Rain Sampler RS1.

The monitoring sites are the Mera (1200 m., Amazon region) and the Salesiana Polytechnical University-South Campus (2850 m., Andean region) in collaboration with Alex Bentley and Dr. Sheila Serrano-Vincenti respectively.

This ongoing campaign allows us to reconstruct long term isotopic records for studying extreme rainfall events, calibration of paleoclimate archives (i.e., tree-rings, speleothems, ice-cores) and tritium distribution at the equator.

We successfully concluded our visit giving a lecture regarding the use of isotopes in research for the Faculty of Geochemistry and Pharmacy at the Salesiana Polytechnical University.
