Dr. László Elemér earned his habilitation degree at the University of Debrecen

On July 4, 2026, the University of Debrecen held a formal doctoral conferral and awards ceremony, during which doctoral, habilitation, and professor emeritus titles were conferred. At the event, Dr. Elemér László, a researcher at the HUN-REN Institute for Nuclear Research, received his habilitation diploma.
Dr. László Elemér successfully earned his habilitation degree at the University of Debrecen. The title of his habilitation thesis is “Modeling and Measurement of Atmospheric Isotope Time Series.”

Habilitation is one of the highest academic and teaching qualifications in higher education, attesting to the candidate’s outstanding research achievements, independent scholarly work, and high-level competence as a teacher and thesis advisor. Dr. László Elemér’s habilitation thesis addresses current issues in the application of atmospheric isotopes. His research focuses on the analysis of tritium and stable isotopes in precipitation, the investigation of the relationship between atmospheric processes and isotopic composition, the detection of environmental traces of solar activity, and the study of atmospheric methane and noble gas isotopes. The results presented contribute to a better understanding of the hydrological cycle, atmospheric processes, and climate change, and open up new possibilities for the application of environmental isotopes in meteorology and earth sciences.
His work as a teacher and thesis advisor is also significant. To date, he has served as the thesis advisor for six BSc and one MSc students, and has also supervised three theses for the Student Research Circle (TDK). He is currently supervising the research of three PhD students. He considers the training of young researchers to be a priority, which he supports by actively involving them in research projects, strengthening international scientific collaborations, and sharing state-of-the-art measurement and modeling methods..
Earning the habilitation degree is a significant professional milestone that recognizes his scientific research, international publications, teaching work, and role in training young researchers over the past several years. This recognition also reinforces the research direction that contributes to the advancement of domestic and international earth science research through the development of methods for measuring and modeling atmospheric isotopes and a deeper understanding of meteorological and hydrological processes.
